I grew up in a very family oriented household in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Most of my childhood consisted of doing homework, sports, dancing and family nights. There was not much time that I spent alone, which I really didn’t notice until later in life. My folks and I always shared numerous nights a week with local relatives. Coming from a home where I was an only child, I had to learn how to adapt to making my cousins and friends like my close kin. In using that connection, I quickly learned that I was someone who wanted to be just a resourceful as those in my familial and friend circle which, I think, contribute to my more compassionate personality.
I started my journey in holistic healing when I declared a major in Environmental Health Science. As I went through college, I learned a lot about environmental impacts on people, how it happens and why. My concern for people and how they are affected by their surroundings led me to a couple schools of thought after college. At first, I was thinking of the literal environmental impacts upon a sole individual which then turned into thoughts of how an individual’s environment (their body, job, home life), were affected by energies and influences around them. This brought me into the volunteering phase of life and I then moved on to working with kids termed ‘at risk.’ I realized and respected that kids are the result of what is directly related to them, and they are a very expressive group of souls. I enjoyed and still enjoy working with kids as I have embarked on returning to higher education for a Masters in Education, but also paid attention to the fact that they are a product of their environment – people for the most part who acknowledge that they experience their existence. Environment, culture, and community pass along energy that affect the web entangled in our beautiful universe. Realizing that there is a large interconnected web of energy and people, I decided that I wanted to learn more about channeling and transference.
And so my life in holistic therapy opened up. Since my early twenties, I have been interested in a simplistic way of life and the concept of centeredness. Focusing on being centered at my core, I have been able to direct my life in massage therapy and energy / bodywork to be something that is both beneficial to me as well as those that surround me. And so my ‘environmental health’ degree comes into play, but in a more literal personal sense. I enjoy connecting with people and through massage therapy and energy healing, and appreciate the diverse ways in which we can interact in this world.
